We live in a bright and colorful world that often avoids the more subtle tones of the pastel world. You might be included in the number that doesn’t find a pastel color palette as compelling or exciting as some of the highly saturated and attention-grabbing shades on the color wheel. If you’re in this camp, don’t worry — you are not alone. Pastels have the tendency to fade from view, garner less attention and make less appearances in the home. However, some pastel hues have had their moment in the spotlight as of late. Pantone declared two colors as their Colors of the Year for 2016 — Rose Quartz and Serenity. These two are an undeniably strong duo, and can be a wonderful addition to your home’s color scheme. We happen to think that these two pastels, along with their other pastel pals, can absolutely work for your home. There is a certain sophistication, softness and classiness to pastels that we think you should consider capitalizing on. You might also experience less regret if you jump on this bandwagon as opposed to, say, a commitment to a wild animal print pasted all over your kitchen. Plus, you will ultimately appreciate the subtlety of a pastel, as you can pair it with just about any contrasting hue or print. Don’t believe us? We have a few small pieces of advice for you, if you’re willing to incorporate pastels into your home’s decor. 1. Don’t overdo it! As with just about anything involving home decor, a lot of a good thing can be a bad thing. You don’t want to make others confuse your home for the Easter bunny’s home. 2. Don’t be scared to mix and match several pastel hues! You can keep things simple by centering your space on light pink (or Rose Quartz, more specifically) or branch out by mixing several pastel shades together, as you saw masterfully done in some of the photos above. The beauty of pastels is their ability to work well together. 3. Add some bright pops of color or a shiny metallics for a little unexpected excitement.
